Poker Ring Games

Online ring games are the most common way in which people choose to play poker. Good disciplined players appreciated that there is not so much reliance on good fortune at a ring table as there is in a tournament, and whereas you cannot wait forever in a tournament for a good pair of cards, patience on a full ring game can be a profitable virtue. However, there are a few tricks the pros use to maximise their opportunities that new players could also benefit from.

Picking the right table to play on is essential. In the lobby area of your online poker site, there is a column which indicates how many players on a specific table are seeing flop. The “more the merrier” is the goal, as the higher the number of players seeing flop, the greater value for the victor. However, do not fall into the trap of playing loose, just because everybody else is.

Take the full complement of chips allowed to the table, because this will make sure that you are able to gain the most from those big pot wins. Certain web sites impose limits on the number of Big Blinds you are allowed to bring to the table, so make sure that you know what they are and check to see if many players are already way above that limit because of their winnings to date.

Always wait for the Big Blind to come round to you naturally. When you sit at a table for the first time, you are invited to pay a BB to get involved in the next hand. Don´t! The additional time you will be sitting out will allow you the opportunity to observe the playing patterns of your adversaries, note their strengths and their weaknesses, and give you a better chance to take advantage of them.

Change seats if you want to. Ideally, you should have all the aggressive players to your right and your passive players to your left. That way, you will be able to pick up bigger pots from the aggressive players when drawing a top hand, and bet into the passive players if you are trying to pinch some blinds. Do not feel embarrassed by looking to get yourself into the best position. After all, you are there to win these people´s money!

Finally, take your time. There is a big difference between impulse and instinct and you should take a pause before any action – even folding. Consider the knowledge you have acquired about your opponents while sitting at the table, and do not think that just because you have a certain set of cards you should act in a certain manner. Always consider position, always take the edge when you have one and never be afraid to fold.

Now all you need is the cards!
